About Our Rescue

Scotland's only permanent battery hen rescue.
We are appalled by the conditions and treatment of commercial hens. Homes4hens exist to give hens a happy retirement in to a free-ranging life.
We launched our hen rescue after collecting 6 hens to keep as pets from a local farm. The horrendous smell and deafening noise of thousands of hens crammed together was stomach churning and the balding feather-pecked hens were in such a sorry state we wanted to do more. So we returned and collected a further 20 the following day!
Since then, we have increased our 'chicken plots' to accommodate 120 hens. Each time we rescue farmed hens we keep them in quarantine for several days to ensure they are uninjured and to allow them to settle to free-ranging before finding them new forever homes.
If you choose to re-home a few battery hens from us, you will find it to be a very rewarding experience. Not only are you giving commercial chickens a much deserved retirement but they also reward you with the occasional egg! You can't say fairer than that can you?
