Our PurposeHomes4hens Rescue C.I.C. exists to give commercial laying hens a future after farming. Our aim is to inspire you to provide a free-range retirement for ex-laying hens otherwise destined for slaughter. Homes4Hens rescues and rehomes ex-caged and commercial hens at pop-up events across the country. We are committed, dedicated and passionate people who hope to bring joy to people's lives whilst helping hens that deserve a happy ending.

Our HistoryResponding to an advert in a local paper for 'cheap hens', Kathryn and Michael Vogel arrived at a farm to collect six hens to keep as pets. The farmer lead them to a barn where they would see the inside of a battery hen farm system for the first time. The gloomy barn was filled with rows of cages and the deafening noise of thousands of hens squawking out their distress in unison.
A few moments later, with their six hens in a cardboard box they returned home and released the lucky chickens in the garden. Watching the hens explore their new found freedom was heart-warming but marred with sadness at the thought of the thousands of hens still back in the dusty barn, soon to be slaughtered having never been outside. It was this experience that prompted a quick return to the farm, armed with boxes and dog cages, Kathryn and Michael rescued a further 20 hens with the intention of finding them forever homes and so Homes4Hens came in to existence. Homes4Hens became the first Hen Rescue in Scotland and at the time of writing, has rehomed more than 40,000 hens to gardens, allotments, care homes and schools across the country. |
Our VisionOur vision is a world where hens are treated with kindness and an understanding of their needs. A world in which no hen is caged or kept permanently indoors.
